Simoncelli led the race from early on, he was able to maintain the lea for the remainder of the race followed by Aprilia’s Hector Barbera and Raffaele de Rosa.

Current championship leader Hiroshi Aoyama qualified in third position however he slipped down the race order and was in seventh position by the mid way point of the race, whilst fellow championship contender Alvaro Bautista who qualified in tenth was able to move his way up the field.

Aprilia rider Hector Barber was able to match Simoncelli pace at the front, whilst De Rosa was unable to stay with the pair which resulted in a 0.5 second gap between the leading pair and third position.
Mattia Pasini crashed out on lap seventeen after a very difficult weekend, Pasini’s crash was then followed by Bautista, who managed to re join and finish the race in tenth position scoring valuable championship points.
With Locatelli’s high side at the infamous MG corner, the race was bought to an abrupt end handing victory to Simoncelli. Barbera and De Rosa took the remaining steps of the podium whilst Jules Cluzel and Mike Di Meglio rounded out the top five.

With Simoncelli taking victory and Aoyama taking seventh place the world championship standings have been reduced to a mere twelve points with two races remaining. Bautista now sits on 198 followed by fellow Aprilia riders Hector Barbera on 194 and Mattia Pasini on 128.
