It was a brilliant start for Aprilia Off Road in the Italian Supermoto Championship. At Ottobiano (Pavia), the twins from Noale made themselves kings of the S1. Thierry Van Den Bosch locked in first place in the international classification with his victory atop an Aprilia SXV 4.5 and red-hot Ivan Lazzarini (Aprilia SXV 4.5) earned top honors in the Italian championship. The rider from Pesaro (and member of Team Aprilia Factory DRC) immediately demonstrated his ease with the new bike as he clocked in the top time of the qualification round and stayed in the battle during both heats. In Race 1 he took off in third and passed the German Bernd Hiemer (Ktm) before moving in on Thomas Chareyre (Husqvarna). During the last two laps, he pushed even harder and attempted a final pass at his competitor on the paved stretch but was held off by the French rider who ably defended his position. It was third place for Van Den Bosch who, after starting off in fourth, finished behind the two leaders after freeing himself of Hiemer.

Race 2 saw Chareyre again take off in the lead. He was followed by Hiemer, Van Den Bosch, and Lazzarini. The pace was immediately increased when Van Den Bosch passed Hiemer before relieving Chareyre of the lead. Both would later cede their positions to Lazzarini who finished in second place. The last laps were an Aprilia parade as Lazzarini closed out the race on the heels of Van Den Bosch.
In the S2 class, Massimo Beltrami (yet another illustrious rookie atop an Aprilia SXV 5.5 of Team Aprilia Factory DRC) closed out the trial with sixth and ninth place finishes in the heats, locking in fifth place overall in the Italian Championship despite shoulder pain from a fall in training.
