WORLD SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP: LAZZARINI A SUPERSTAR AT THE SPANISH GP

Ivan Lazzarini (Aprilia SXV 4.5) dominated the Spanish S1 Supermoto Grand Prix, the third international round of the season. The rider from Pesaro bounced back from last month's double zero at the European Grand Prix at Castelletto di Branduzzo with a thrashing victory. Lazzarini, a member of Team DRC Aprilia Supermoto, earned Sunday morning's Super Pole and easily won Race 1. He immediately took off in the lead and held his advantage, commanding the entire 15 laps of the race. It was the same script in Race 2 as Ivan won again, marking a historical double. It was the first time that an Italian rider won an international Gp in the 450 class, let alone with an Italian motorcycle! It was instead an uphill battle for Thierry Van Den Bosch (Aprilia SXV 4.5) who was compromised by a fall during Sunday morning's trials that dislocated his shoulder and cracked two ribs. His fall came at the start, while in 3rd place, as he attempted to pass an adversary. Dropping down to 10th place, he was able to climb his way back up to 6th overall. His luck was no better in Race 2 when another fall relegated him to 8th place.

With this splendid double and that of the Italian round two weeks ago in Pomposa, Lazzarini demonstrated his determination and grit, even in the international scene. In the classification, Ivan is still looking up at Hiemer who, with his 136 points, stole the lead this weekend from Van Den Bosch and his 122 points. Ivan currently has 86 points and occupies 5th place in the rankings.
The S2 was raced without Cristian Iddon who fractured his right wrist during training. Massimo Beltrami took 5th place overall in the Grand Prix atop the Aprilia SXV 5.5 of Team DRC Supermoto following 5th and 4th place finishes in the two heats. It was 7th place overall for Luca Minutilli and his Aprilia SXV 5.5 of Team PMR H20 after his 7th and 6th place finishes.
